Harvey Bryant

Durham, NC | Musician & Artist

Durham-based multi-instrumentalist and multidisciplinary artist Harvey Bryant brings a wide-ranging, exploratory approach to both music and visual art. With more than 40 years of experience as a musician, Harvey has moved fluidly across genres, blending the improvisational language of jazz with the influence of Spanish classical guitar, which he studied in the 1980s and 1990s. His style is also shaped by the rock, pop, funk, and occasional country music he performed in local bands throughout the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s.

Guitar is Harvey’s primary instrument, though he also plays bass and percussion, and continues to expand his musical vocabulary through violin, viola, and keyboards. An avid listener, Harvey believes a great playlist should move easily from Mozart to Mariah Carey, Bob Dylan to Bob Marley, and Paul Simon to Parliament-Funkadelic.

Harvey’s visual art practice began with photography and sculptural furniture design in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Over time, his work has expanded to include metalwork, sculpture, and stained glass. His art portfolio can be viewed in the gallery section of this website.

After marrying and starting a family in the early 2000s, Harvey stepped away from public performance for a period of creative exploration. During that time, he deepened his musicianship, expanded his visual art practice, and added studio recording and production to his skill set.

In June 2021, Harvey released a two-song single featuring “Chonk” and “Sean & Katie’s Shuffle,” followed by the seven-song album Latin Blue in 2022. He played all instruments and produced both releases himself. Harvey is currently working on a new album that brings together instrumental composition and spoken word, anticipated for release in 2026 or 2027, while continuing to create new visual artwork.
